I’ve created this page to serve as a meta-directory for locals, travelers, and visitors to find events taking place in the city of Walla Walla, Washington.

There are a handful of online events websites which I review periodically for their usefulness to non-locals. The contents of this page will grow and adapt to the changing conditions of their event directories.

Best Local Event Directories

  1. WW Union-Bulletin
  2. Visit Walla Walla
  3. Downtown Walla Walla Foundation
  4. Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce
  5. Wine-Specific Events

Best Non-Local Event Directories

  1. Google Search
  2. Facebook
  3. Eventbrite
  4. WikiDo

Best Local Event Directories

#1 WW Union-Bulletin (local newspaper)

There is no shortage of events to be found on the local newspaper’s website. It’s always comforting to reference a local content publisher for events and entertainment rather than some massive corporate directory.

The Union-Bulletin has reported on all things Walla Walla since the early 1900s and they’ve kept up with the digital age quite well.

Browse a wide variety of events from this listing site who is closely woven with the local residents.

The “UB” even has a printed Visitor’s Guide you can pick up from card racks around town (I don’t recommend the web version).

#2 Visit Walla Walla

Visit Walla Walla has an open-source events calendar, meaning that users can submit their own events to be included in the directory via online form. While I don’t imagine they have many unique submissions coming in daily, they do list a fair amount of local events.

The Visit Walla Walla events calendar is very informative with the events it does list out. Their site helps you find a website associated with the event and link to ticket sales pages.

This directory may not include every local event, but they provide a wealth of knowledge on those that are given a spot on the Visit Walla Walla calendar.

#3 Downtown Walla Walla Foundation

The Downtown Walla Walla Foundation’s event calendar contains fewer overall events than most of the other sites mentioned in this article, but they are of high quality!

I will mention that all events listed seem to be “Member Events”, so they may exclude any non-member entries from their schedule.

When I originally reviewed the calendar of events on the Downtown Foundation’s website, I found most of them to be for Music or Theater events.

The Downtown Walla Walla Foundation’s event calendar contains fewer overall events than most of the other sites mentioned in this article, but they are of high quality!

#4 Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce

Being a local chamber organization, its membership likely drives much the resulting event listings on their calendar, though I couldn’t say for sure.

The chamber’s events calendar is rather underwhelming and doesn’t contain many entries.

I will say that this directory should be of special interest to those seeking to become more involved in the Walla Walla business community. Plus, they have some fun happy hours and even a yarn craft meetup!

#5 Wine-Specific Events

There are only a few online calendars made specifically for wine events, but they can still be quite handy.

These sites are sparse on the number of events listed, but the advantage still being that all of the events are wine-related only.

Wine events are certainly included in many of the other calendar websites, so you largely don’t need these niche directories to find info about prominent wine events in the area.

Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance

The only true Walla Walla wine event calendar I could find that wasn’t directly associated with an individual winery.

The Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance is an association of local wine industry professionals and effectively serves as a marketing and communications organization for local winemakers.

A solid website for all things wine and Walla Walla!

Celebrate Walla Walla Valley Wine

Celebrate Walla Walla Valley Wine is essentially a 3-day collection of wine festivities all taking place within July 16-18th, 2020 (The World of Syrah).

All event tickets are available for purchase individually, but you can also buy a full weekend “super pass”.

If there’s one weekend to pack your schedule with Walla Walla Wine tastings and seminars, this is it!

Best Non-Local Event Directories

#1 Google Search

Need I say any more?

Unfortunately, most websites that provide event listings tend to cover only a subset of available events, despite their best efforts. Since I don’t trust that any single Walla Walla events website contains all of the actual local events, I just Google and go from there.

Google even has a user guide, explaining how to use Google Search to find events.

If you’re like me, you’ll rely on a simple Google search for something as broad as “walla walla events”. Add the dates or the types of events you’re looking for to narrow down your results.

The selection of events on Google is quite extensive. The advantage of Googling is that you’re generally given results for events presented on nearly ALL websites and directories that have event listings.

Click the “Search more events” button to expand the list of events which enables search and visibility controls, such as filtering by date and event types (concerts, nightlight, etc.)

#2 Facebook

Facebook controls its own events platform that is often utilized by local businesses and organizations to extend the reach of their promotional efforts.

What that means for travelers and tourists is that you can find unique events that fly under the radar of larger publishers: Think community yoga classes, indie concerts, trivia nights.

It’s always worth checking into good ol’ Facebook for some more grassroots opportunities for entertainment or enrichment in Walla Walla.

#3 Eventbrite

Eventbrite is a massive directory for local events and ticket sales vendor, which means you’ll generally find accurate info about event pricing.

Eventbrite’s listings for Walla Walla include results for the larger Southeast Washington area and Oregon, which is fine if you’re planning to explore beyond the city of Walla Walla herself.

If you need to actually purchase tickets for a local event, Eventbrite might be the site that manages the ticketing sales. However, I would advise that you check with the event venue or event managers themselves first; they may provide the lowest prices and highest availability.

#4 WikiDo

WikiDo is a large events database that I’ve just recently become familiar with. The site claims to be “a search engine for events and all that is going on in your city” and it appears to do the job rather well, considering Walla Walla is a small city of fewer than 35,000 residents.

You can even expand the range of the resulting events to include the entirety of Walla Walla County! View county-wide events here.

It’s useful to view events by those within the next 30 days to see an assortment of event types coming soon. Unfortunately, WikiDo doesn’t seem to allow the ability to view events further than 30 days out.

Conclusion

The Walla Walla Union-Bulletin’s event calendar is probably the most complete and unbiased locally-managed website for events of interest to tourists, travelers, and visitors.

That being said, there are still plenty of other ways to shop around for events and entertainment when planning activities for your next trip to Walla Walla.

Want a final tip for finding local events of interest in ANY city you're visiting? Just Google the name of the city + type of event + the actual word “events”. (seattle dance events, e.g.)

I hope you find precisely the events you and your traveling companions will most enjoy!
